From the top of the Montedor lighthouse, built in 1910 at an altitude of 22 meters, the parish of Carreço stretches, between sea and hill, with its four picturesque places: Troviscoso, Carreço, Montedor and Paçô.

Represented by the figures of the masseira, a typical fishing vessel from Carreço, the windmills, unique with trapezoidal sails, which are classified as properties of public interest, the lighthouse de Montedor and the lyre, symbol of the parish's culture, Carreço has around 2000 inhabitants and much more to show the world like Canto Marinho beach. In a wild state and with limited infrastructure, this beach offers hiking lovers an interpretative route, where it is possible to observe testimonies and memories of the last two million years of Earth's History. In the Veiga de Carreço, vast fields of sunflowers shine that extend to a beautiful ecovia next to the sea. Another of the wonders of the parish are the Roman salt flats and also the famous rock engravings, one of the largest sets of engravings in the Peninsular Northwest.

Split by Estrada Nacional 13, Carreço is also served by a railway, which arrived in the parish in 1872, and its trails and paths are currently followed by hundreds of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. And to the astonishment of many, it was in Eira do Amaro, a property located next to the national road in the parish, that the first festivals of what would become Santoinho were held.

The traditions of Carreço have been preserved thanks to the work and commitment of the Rancho Regional das Lavradeiras de Carreço, Folkloric Group Dances and Songs of Carreço and Ronda Típica de Carreço. The parish is also boosted by the cultural and sporting work of the Education and Recreation Society and provides relevant support to the community through the Social and Parish Center.
